- A new type of battle: Horde Encounters pits one of the player’s Pokemon against multiple wild Pokemon that all attack at once. 

- To come out the victor in such battles, players should make sure their Pokemon has moves that can attack multiple enemies at once.

Another new type of battle is Sky Battles. Certain trainers will challenge you to these matches, which take place high in the sky.
